By Counting Sheep

By counting sheep,

I

try

to

sleep.

Impossible

since thoughts of you

dance in my head

with musical notes

I can touch

and

gather

in

the

palm

of

my

hands.

I shine a light

to study them.

What I see

are your eyes –

full of wonder

you can’t hide.

Ah, you’re dreaming

of

me,

you

say.

Stick to sheep,

silly

girl!

For if you think of me,

I’ll keep you up

very late,

and all your sheep

(gasp)

will

escape.
