Flash Movie Review: Keeping Up with the Joneses

moviejoltz

I learned at an early age that having more body mass was not a way to keep up with the people around me. Assumptions were made that I could not hit or catch a ball and I must be slow in a game of tag. Though initially I did not think I was different as time went on I sort of fell into people’s expectations. Oh and not being able to wear the latest trends in clothing because they did not make them in my size really pushed me over the edge. What could I do? I did what others in my situation did, ditch these unwritten rules. Little did I know this was going to help me later in life.   AFTER living in apartments where all the residents pretty much were on equal footing, I bought a house. It was a major adjustment for me. From living in places…

Thomas Time for New Year’s Day 2017

John Cowgill's Literature Site

Hello  Everyone.  I  am  Thomas  Time.  This  is  New  Year’s  Day.  It  is  the  day  that  is  the  very  first  day  of  the  year.  That  is  why  it  is  called  New  Year’s  Day.  Some  of  you  are  saying  that  you  already  knew  that.  I  know,  but  you  do  need  a  reminder  from  time  to  time.  I  know  that  some  of  you  are  on  a  different  calendar,  but  for  most  of  us,  it  is  a  brand  new  year.  So,  let  us  say  farewell  to  this  year  and  say  hello  to  this  brand  new  year.  By  the  way,  you  really  had  no  choice  as  it  is  happening  anyway.  So,  let  me,  Thomas  Time,  say  to  you,  that  is  the  people  known  as  you,  wish  you  a  HAPPY  NEW  YEAR.  I  am  Thomas  Time.  Have  lots  of  fun.

Soulful Sunday – REVEAL, DEAL, HEAL

Real Bold Truth

This message is not unique by far. It’s been told, preached and written about a million times over. Yet I feel compelled to reiterate today because many of us need to be reminded. The enemy likes snatching the Word from our spirits the instant it is uttered to keep us entrapped in bondage.

The only way to heal from a thing is to reveal it then deal with it! There is no other way! All else is simply avoidance and the rehearsed act of suppression. We may be able to keep symptoms of that pain at bay for a time; but it’s toxicity will spill out into the blood streams of our spirits in very nasty and unexpected ways. This leak ruins relationships, makes us ugly, robs us of blessings and stuns our growth.

REVEAL means to face that thing that you don’t want to talk about. When you do…

May You Live in Interesting Times

Barataria - The work of Erik Hare

Years ago, Barataria predicted that 2017 would be “The Year Everything Changes”. The lesson is, of course, that we all need to be careful what we wish for.

The basic underlying forces which drove that prediction have not changed. The holiday shopping season has yet to be fully tabulated, but it appears that the robust 3.6% gain predicted was met or even matched, with one estimate showing a 4.9% gain. Baby Boomers will still hit retirement age and there will definitely be a shortage of workers coming up, especially in certain skilled areas.

For all that hope, the upside will be limited by an incoming Trump administration. It’s not just that they are largely tied to political views which do not fit the situation, it’s that many of them have little to no experience making policy. To a large extent, nothing will get done. But what does…

Witches Gate

Drawing near to Witches Gate

the spires rise in the distance

burned out frame

house of crime

vicious seekers came one night

two brothers at home

shot one in the head

found the wall safe bare.

Burning everything

but the truth

hot flames mocking.

Murdering madmen

stealing away

wrapped in night’s wicked cloak.

That ground was always cursed

since the annals of early time

when Esme ruled over

those shadowed fields

pouring potions into sand

summoning spirits from the shallows

cackling curses in the air

spitting sorcery into the wind.

The ruins of the house

flirting there

stalwart and still

mesmerizing,

beckoning

nature lovers, road weary travelers

adventurous fools….

And sometimes

when approaching

as the western sky strikes low

the house burns once again

in a ghoulish, blood red glow.

Why Teddy will Always be my #1 Man

Alexis Chateau

Few people if any would describe me as sentimental. I’m known for being pragmatic, sometimes ruthlessly so. Every puzzle piece in my life must serve a purpose, and once it ceases to do so I start working out its exit strategy.

I try to play the same role in other people’s lives. I believe when we meet people and develop a relationship of any kind, we should leave them better than we found them. Too few of us are only there to take and take, and give nothing substantial in return.

Meet Sergio

Even so, there is one semi-sentimental attachment in my life I hang on to. His name is Sergio. He is dark-skinned, with big brown eyes, of medium build… and he’s a teddy bear. This Christmas makes it five years since he’s been in my life.

I’m so hopelessly attached to this bear that when I quit my…

My Style Pick On The Eve Of Sydney Italian Festival Launch

vivalaViv

Here are my favourite fashionistas AND my favourite event crew (picture above)! We all turned up channelling Italian glamour and style – our own way – on the eve of the Sydney Italian Festival launch, so I’ve been feeling the itch to share my thoughts all round…

Left to right, fine art and fashion photographer Kent Johnson
Kent’s ensemble that night was a classy smart casual look. His pink shirt was my idea, not only did the colour match my dress’ pink floral, I suggested him to wear pink also for the ‘Pink October’ – Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Kent’s whole look got a lift up by the well fitted navy blazer – it’s every stylish man’s wardrobe essential!
The fedora? Well, that’s part of Kent’s ‘Hat Man’ signature style!

Second from the left, moiyours sincerely. Well, last year I turned up the launch with a…
